Unpacking the Aeroplan Shopping Button: A Chrome Extension Review

In the ever-expanding world of online shopping , deal aggregators and shopping list organizers are on the rise. Among these digital tools is the Aeroplan Shopping Button, a Chrome extension promising to enhance your shopping experience by helping you earn Aeroplan points during your online purchases. Despite its enticing premise, user reviews paint a less than flattering picture of this shopping assistant, which currently holds a low rating of 1.7 out of 5. In this review, we'll delve into what contributes to this poor aggregate rating and discuss whether the Aeroplan Shopping Button is truly a top Chrome extension for online shopping.

The Promise of the Aeroplan Shopping Button

Market positioning as a shopping list app with benefits, the Aeroplan Shopping Button pledges to make shopping lists more rewarding. With a simple set-up, it promises to inform you when you can accumulate points with partner retailers without the need to visit the Aeroplan eStore first. The extension boasts about its 'never miss out' feature where it alerts users to earn with a one-click activation. In theory, this makes it a potentially desirable online shopping assistant for Chrome users.

The Reality of User Experience

While the Aeroplan Shopping Button makes enticing claims, user reviews indicate a stark contrast between promised features and actual performance. Users like Brian Jose and Ben Lum point out the extension's limited range of promoted retailers. A common complaint among reviewers such as Tobi M, Shawn C, and Dennis Rice, is the conspicuous absence of Amazon, a key player in the online shopping realm. Without the inclusion of such a major retailer, the extension's utility as a shopping list manager and deal aggregator is severely diminished.

Functionality Flaws

Beyond the limited range of retailers, the Aeroplan Shopping Button seems to suffer from some critical functionality issues. Users such as Ernest Chan and Arvind Tirkey report that the search box is non-functional. This flaw essentially cripples the extension, rendering it, as Chan puts it, 'completely useless'. Alexandre Potvin and Aaron Bridge also highlight the unreliability of the extension, sharing that they often don't get credited points despite following the correct process.

The Verdict

While the idea of earning points while shopping is appealing, the Aeroplan Shopping Button falls significantly short. The lack of popular retailers, non-functional search box, and unreliable point credit system contribute to its low aggregate rating. These issues make it hard to recommend this extension as a top choice for those seeking an efficient online shopping assistant.

Considering customer feedback, it seems the AeroPlan Shopping button fails to live up to its promise, making it a less than ideal shopping list organizer, deal aggregator, and online shopping assistant. The low aggregate rating reflects the extension's shortcomings, advising users to consider alternative Chrome extensions for a more satisfactory online shopping experience.

Conclusion

Despite the appealing concept, the Aeroplan Shopping Button's performance leaves much to be desired. This review advises potential users to heed the warning of its low rating and consider other Chrome extensions with better functionality and reliability. It's crucial to remember that the best shopping list apps and online shopping assistants are those that deliver on their promises and make online shopping a seamless and rewarding experience.

H Yang

Horrible. Doesn't pick up the site.

Wendi Pee

Does not work, always activate while I shop but never receive the points.

Lester Ho

Before the extension was great. I could find my retailers easily. Now the extension barely anything, not even Amazon, Apple, ASUS or anything.

Thomas Gagnon

Doesn't function for most of the sites that are part of the aeroplan program.

Mandy W

Doesn't show stores. Doesn't work.

Keifer Bell

Doesn't show the stores it's eligible for. Have to login and go through the Aeroplan E-Store.

Angela Kayan

Doesn't work at all! Every time I'm on Amazon (which Aeroplan has points rewards with cnstantly), it never triggers it. I always end up having to go through Aeroplane's E-store and redirect back to Amazon to get my points.

Valera Strugov

Only shows 3 "featured" stores. When I search for other stores, like Lululemon or Amazon, it can't find them. What's the points of this extension?!

Shehban Patel

Doesn't work 99% of time. Even going through the web login works only half the time.

Yves Lai

This extension incorrectly renders bold text on websites, and some bold texts only display as normal text. To fix this I have to remove the extension.

Andrea A

This extension stopped working in Dec 2023. When you're signed out, you can see all the e-stores aeroplan has. Once signed in, you get a blank page. If you try searching for Amazon or any store, you get an error message. I've tried using the store via edge and chrome, neither work.

Gustavo Sanavio

This is a joke

Neil Dodd

Only shows "featured" which is a list of six stores. Aeroplan has a ton of stores on their webpage but only six appear in this extension. If you try to search, nothing appears. So essentially this extension is complete junk.

Pablo Ramos

Amazon stopped showing up in the extension

Magdy Habib

I tried to book flight from Toronto Landon England in ascertain date using Aeroplan points the results no available flight, available, i switch to book without Aeroplan was easy and all flights which are not available become available .if you try to use (redeem) Aeroplan points you will find it much more expensive if flight available. I f you try to call Aeroplan for example for missing points ,if they respond they are focusing only on flight.

Neil Little

i would like my points please! not only does the search not work, you have to actually go through and search alphabetically.....to finally log into best buy and amazon aaaaaaand spend $1000s to just not get anything at all. 18 months of inactivity can creep up quickly when you arent paying attention to your point balance (cuz you actually trust both of these companies) points please thanks

Olivier Proulx

Worst extension ever... Used to work for like a month an now its like it is designed not to work and make you loose your points.

Felix To

Does not work. Emailed Aeroplan multiple times. Support staff brushes you off saying they did not get activation link, then proceeds to ignore your emails. Don't bother downloading.

Shayne

Doesn't work. Terrible for such a huge program.
